Coming from a very much business background first and then into film, i have got to say i reckon film is the worse "Business" there is , badly organised, to many people talking sh*te and not enough people with their heads screwed on.

just want to know what everyone else thinks

note - im not refering to films which are made for artistic reasons or expression

I agree (but then you are producing my short heh heh heh)

I think the ppl who 'make' it have to have certain characteristics/attitude:

    1. Punctuality
    2. Professionalism - ie know when to shut up
    3. Thick skin (especially thick on the back, armour plated if possible)
    4. Perseverence
    5. An ability/method for getting noticed
    6. Luck - being prepared for an opportunity
    7. Ability to deal with stress
    8. Know what your job is within the production scope
    9. Get on with people you have never met
    10. A love of caffiene

oh, and liking films helps, too.

I havent had a lot of experience with professional film making, but what Ive seen I agree with.
There is a lot of sloppy farting around and umming and ah-ing. Hitchcock would never have put up with that.
I guess artists consider themselves above simple professionalism and timekeeping?
The people I most get on with on set (again my experience is pretty limited) are the gaffers and make up people, the crew, the engineer types. Who get on with the job. Half the rest of the time you are simply keeping people sweet, so they wont piss off and leave you without a leading actor and 6 more scenes to shoot....
I can see why large films end up costing so much. Simply because so few Directors/Producers have a fucking clue about how to deal with something. They throw money at it instead of using their brain.
And I absolutley agree with you chance. People talk SHIT constantly, make promises, break promises. Thats part of the reason Im going my own way and avoiding the 'movie types'....
Hope ITKOA is coming along well.

    See you

Oh, well if you want to know....nothing special, just do a crap job to pay for rent and food and beer and film stock, and to get pretty good connections (I work at a University, so lots of equipment available in various departments) and churn out fairly unambitious low budget films. Feature films mind you.....But I basically do everything myself, and everyone else is either an amateur or looking to get experience. Doubt it will change the world, but it keeps me occupied.
